IDEAS Competitive Profiles Improves Server and Storage Configurator in Latest Update

Ideas International (ASX:IDE) has released updates to its Competitive Profiles subscription information service as part of its ongoing quarterly enhancement program.
Highlights of the changes include an update to the server and storage configuration tool to include configuration notes, which will help guide users when building configurations. Subscribers also now have access to historical configurations and pricing, while the Server Cost of Ownership coverage now includes standalone Blades comparisons to augment the full Blades Cost of Ownership tool, which allows complex Blades configurations to be constructed.
The Solution Builder configuration tool has long been a favorite tool of Competitive Profiles power users who like to build their own custom configurations or make changes to the library of sample configurations. However, there are often complex product configuration rules to negotiate, such as how many memory DIMMs can be added or how many drives of a certain type can be installed. "How to Configure" notes, within the tool itself, make it easier to build and maintain what can sometimes be very complex server and storage configurations.
Many people don’t realize that in addition to coverage of current offerings, the Competitive Profiles database contains profiles for over 10,000 obsolete products. This wealth of valuable historical information has been made easier to find. A number of key improvements have been made, including adding the ability to view obsolete configurations in the server and storage Cost of Ownership tools and the Competitive Landscape tools, which provide direct feature-for-feature comparisons between competing products; the ability to search for obsolete products from the search bar; and the addition of the date a product was archived to product comparisons and other product information within Competitive Profiles.
Other changes in this Q2 2010 update include providing visibility of which products feature industry-standard benchmark results on the overview Product Family pages, improved industry standard performance benchmark export facilities, updates to the historical pricing history presentation charts, and the migration of the previously separate Data Domain product line to under the EMC umbrella.
